Heliskiing
A rare moment that changes everything
High above the unspoilt heights of the Arlberg is an experience that few people in Austria know about: Heliskiing in Lech-Zürs. This spectacular experience is the only place in Austria that allows access to remote peaks and snow-covered slopes.
The flight usually starts at the Kriegerhorn in Lech and takes you to peaks such as the Mehlsack (2,652 m) or the Schneetäli/Orgelscharte – depending on the weather, avalanche conditions and skill level. As soon as you land, a moment of pure silence awaits you: then the sound of the rotor blades settles and you start your line – knee-high powder, pure freedom, undivided nature.
The tours are usually organised with experienced mountain and ski guides and are limited to small groups (often up to four people). Between the peaks, you will experience perspectives that remain invisible from normal pistes – a reward for courage, planning and respect for nature.
Our recommendation
- Heliskiing is only suitable for advanced skiers – experience in deep snow is a prerequisite.
- Good planning & booking in advance is essential, as capacities are limited.
- Ask for safety instructions, equipment recommendations (e.g. avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe) and insurance cover.
- Be aware of environmental and authorisation requirements – heliskiing is strictly regulated.
Austria-wide only possible in Lech Zürs.
